Meet Your Pet’s New BFFs
Mary Anne Shuttleworth
Owner and Founder
Mary Anne has been caring for cats and dogs around Portage, Lake Station, Hobart, Merrillville, Chesterton, Valparaiso, and Ogden Dunes since 2012. As a former medical transcriptionist, she’s always been detail-oriented and organized, but as a lifelong dog and cat lover, she’s found her true calling in befriending the pets in her care.
Clients often come to NWI Pet Care with timid, nervous pets, and are surprised to find their cat who “doesn’t like people,” or their dog who “doesn’t like to make friends,” quickly warms up to Mary Anne and her family.
“When I’m meeting a new animal, I just get down to their level,” says Shuttleworth, “I let them open up at their own pace, and most importantly, take the time to learn where they want to be petted.”
For boarders and doggy daycare clients, your dog will spend all day playing, napping, and snuggling around the puppy-proof house and fenced-in yard with plenty of playmates, treats, and toys to keep them busy.

Guapo
Executive Assistant/Greeter
Our Irish Wolfhound/Bearded Collie Mix weighs in at 100 pounds. A gentle giant, he gets along with dogs of all sizes. He knows when to give space to skittish dogs and those who don’t yet feel comfortable and helps everypuppy feel right at home.
Hobbies: As guardian of the snacks, Guapo likes to post up in front of the fridge so when we open the door, he slides with it!
A seasoned squirrel watcher, he enjoys hanging out near windows so he can look out for critters.
Sophie
Concierge/Playtime Coordinator
Hobbies: Sophie loves climbing all over her big brother Guapo. Having been around dogs of all sizes since she was a small puppy, she sees everyone as a potential playmate. In the winter, she loves going out in the snow and collecting snowballs all over her coat.
A connoisseur of toys, she has a penchant for water bottles and anything that crinkles. She’s known to tackle toys bigger than herself.
